Version 2004

Linux version: SuSE-9.2
Wine version: self compiled, SuSE RPM was outdated
Soundcard: C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6 (model 55) at 0xa000, irq 11
Soundcard Type: onboard chip, no wavetables
Virtual Syntesither: TiMidity++ version 2.13.2 (self compiled)
Soundsystem: ALSA, artsd (KDE)

This version of wine works very well with "Band in a Box 2004". I just copied the whole BIAB tree from my Window$ partition into "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/BIAB" and put the TrueType (pg*.ttf) fonts into the systems font path (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype).

At the first start with "wine bbw.exe" I had nothing to be configured - music loading, playing, displaying ran out of the box.

Everything concerning MIDI works as it should. I didn't test audio (WAV), though.

Problems: The LeadSheet display flickers extremly, so it's useless, currently. This has nothing to do whether playback is active or not.

Finally, I want to mention that this setup is already extremly usefull to me, as I am a long time BIAB user and this is the only piece of software that kept me bound to windoze. I'm dedicated to Linux since kernel 0.99 and followed the sound and wine states for quite some years now.

Thanks to all the wine developpers! You are doing a really great job :)

Regards, Frank (aka Perseus)

What works

Playing songs, selecting styles, setting chords, print preview, basically all ordinary features work.

Note: You will have to have set up a working Linux MIDI environment first. Be sure to connect MIDI Throughput 0 to fluidsynth/timidity whatever you are using. (Use aconnectgui to connect once fluidsynth or timidity is up and working)

To get Sheet Music editing to work, you need to install the Band-in-a-Box Font Update for Versions 12 and earlier (0.5 MB) from http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

You may also manually have to install pgmus.TTF and pgtext.TTF in your Linux system - not sure since I installed the above font update after installing these manually.

What does not

Realtime DX Audio Plugins seems unavailable out-of-the-box. May be possible to use by using real DX dll's I don't know.

The Lead Sheet Window has some rendering issues causing it to be displayed first after 2 seconds after opening.

Overall: Practically everything works

Workarounds

What was not tested

I haven't tried recording sound or midi yet, but if you can connect WINE to your microphone (wave input device) / midi keyboard (hook up midi through port 0 input using aconnectgui) - I can but guess that these things works as well.
