After installation, the game runs perfectly. I mean perfectly. I turned turned all effects to high, including advanced lighting, and it performed smoothly with no obvious hiccups.
What does not
Installer threw an error message at the end, but menu shortcuts were created and the game worked properly. In my case, the DVD drive was not detected so the game refused to run at first. Applying a no-cd patch resolved the issue.
What was not tested
I have not played the game extensively yet.
I installed a recently printed copy of the game which came on a DVD. It was version 1.02 right out of the box. If you run a widescreen monitor, I recommend opening winecfg and getting Pirates to run in a virtual desktop (window). Otherwise, it will be changing your desktop resolution which is always a bit ugly. My computer has an NVidia Geforce 8600M GT graphics card with the proprietary NVidia drivers (180.44).
