What works

All basic features of AQ work just like they do in MS Windows (XP-Pro).

The optional Collaboration tool works, too.  After installing the AQ Collab installer, the MS Data Access tool probably needs to be configured to access the on-line server.

To configure the Collaboration tool to access the AQ Collaboration Server, run the MS Data Access utility (odbcad32.exe) via Wine Windows Program Loader.  Follow instructions in Ancestral Quest help topic for Collaboration Server access Troubleshooting.  Ensure the server's URL is set correctly and you might have to use the suggested alternate TCP/IP port.

After accessing the collaboration server properly, and assuming you already have a file stored on the server, perform the get Published file action to create a local file in this new installation of AQ.

Not that it has anything to do with AQ, but I print from AQ to a networked pinter through CUPS.  Initially that did not work, but just using the Wine provided NOTEPAD application and that did print to the network shared printer.  After that worked, now AQ can print too.  I guess it just needed a kick-start (which Notepad provided).

What does not

The included (with AQ) PDF output feature (PDF-XChange-3 print driver) does not work.  At least I could not get it to work.  I would be interested if someone has a way to get AQ under Wine to create PDF files.

What was not tested

My Wine 1.4 is set to act as Windows XP.  I have not tried setting Wine to newer versions of Windows (Vista, Windows7, etc.).  AQ works with the Win-XP setting in Wine.

I have not tested the remote data service access to or the new Family Search features in AQ.

I use the AQ product key for version 12, which does not provide access to new features in AQ version 14, thus I have not tested the new features in AQ 14 and how they might behave in Wine.  Nor if using an unregistered copy what artifacts there might be; I can't image there would be any.

Additional Comments

If I could get PDF output from AQ running under Wine, I would have rated this as Platinum.
