Additional Comments
As others have mentioned installing it with the default windows XP The following works: * Create a fresh install of Wine * Install IES4linux by doing the following from a terminal window wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz $ tar zxvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz $ cd ies4linux-* $./ies4linux NB the ies4linux install seems a bit sensitive. Keep running it until it completes installation successfully. It will eventually. * Copy it to the default wine bottle $ rm -rf ~/.wine/* $ cp -r ~/.ies4linux/ie6/* ~/.wine/ * get the WINETRICKS Script $ wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks * run the following winetricks options to install the msi installer (we have to install one of the MSI's manually) and ensure that msmoney knows the IE is installed $ sh winetricks msi2 fakeie6 * In the Wine Configuration ensure the the default windows version is "Windows 98" * insert the MSMoney 2004 CD * Run the Setup.exe from the CD All Done !

2015-04-20 Admin note: the following steps were extracted from a test report filed for Wine 1.4.1 and may not be relevant to current Wine.
A few steps are required before launching MS Money's "setup.exe", but then the setup runs perfectly and the installation succeeds as expected.
1) Do a "export WINEARCH=win32" to make sure Wine runs in 32-bit mode.
2) Use "winetricks" to install these 3 packages: - "ie6" - "msmxl3" - "corefonts"
3) When Money runs for the first time it will ask, “do you have an Internet connection?†Answer “no†to avoid online content that will be useless and outdated anyway.
