What works

Program installation using both wine 1.4.1 and 1.5.19 fine, except for a minor issue with not being able to read the "text" in some click boxes.

Needed Internet Explorer 6 to be installed to run the program, otherwise the program would just crash on the "startup splash screen".

Otherwise all major functionality worked with the exception of one major and one minor issue.

Was using 32bit Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, Unity window manager.

What does not

1) One serious (repeatable) issue that always caused the program to crash. This was the use of the "Drop down navigation menu hangs application" on the main menu bar. The program is perfectly usable without this menu bar, it is the program crash if you do use it that is the issue.
2) One less serious issue is that program did not terminate 100% cleanly on exiting. The process had to be manually killed.
3) Other "minor" issues that could be lived with, if it was not for the issues above.

My summary is: 1) Needed Internet Explorer 6 to be installed to run the program 2) One serious (repeatable) issue that always caused the program to crash. The following is true for both: wine 1.4.1 wine 1.5.19 Wine Installation: Painless "wine notepad" worked. MSMONEY 2005 Program Installation (this was the UK edition): Notes on installation: 1) Installation was from files on harddrive (from tar file created from CD) 2) Was very quick 3) Couldn't read "I accept" "Cancel" etc text in boxes. "I accept" was left hand most text box. To run the program: wine "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe" Program started but "crashed" at start splash screen. As per suggestions in previous post then installed Internet Explorer 6 using: winetricks ie6 This involved downloading a copy of ie6 from "http://www.oldversion.com" MSMoney then ran "quite well". Only one major issue found (previously reported at WineHQ): * Drop down navigation menu hangs application. This is the main "browser" drop down box in the main menu bar. All other dropdown boxes seemed to work ok. The program is perfectly usable without this menu bar, it is the program crash if you do use it that is the issue. Checked for terminal error message when "Drop down navigation menu hangs application". It was always: err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 912 bytes in thread 0027 eip 7b858550 esp 01170fa0 stack 0x1170000-0x1171000-0x1270000 A second issue seen (previously reported at WineHQ): * Application does not terminate properly on exit. Needs to be manually killed. The GUI exited, but the program was still running (use "ps" in a terminal to find pid and then kill it off). On exit hang error messages were: fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW Option INTERNET_OPTION_END_BROWSER_SESSION: STUB fixme:wininet:CommitUrlCacheEntryInternal entry already in cache - don't know what to do! fixme:apphelp:ApphelpCheckShellObject stub: {9ba05972-f6a8-11cf-a442-00a0c90a8f39} 0x126e8e4 * Window Display Issue When not in full screen mode had two sets of max, min, close window bar items, one set on application window banner, the other on the global menu bar. If pushed enough times use of these buttons could result in the window being frozen. Especially the use of those on the application window banner? Still able to use the "exit" command from the program window so suspect a graphic window issue. Maybe good to check using a different linux window manager? I was using the default Unity in Ubuntu 12.04. Also once or twice I had the application window go "black". This "recovered" on reversing previous window action (ie leave full screen). Other issues (not so serious as they did not seem to affect the operation of the main program) were: * The majority of the items under the "Help" menu produced errors and failed to display information. The main program was unaffected. I believe a number of these items are "Internet access" related. * Got quite a few of the messages below as various actions were undertaken in the program: fixme:wininet:CommitUrlCacheEntryInternal entry already in cache - don't know what to do!
