Workarounds

What was not tested

after the install work around, I have just created a character and walked around a bit went to the inn and rested, bought an item, opened a chest and took an item, that's it. seemed to work perfectly for the several seconds I tested it fore. but more tests need to be done.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

you must install the game on a windows system first and copy the 00766 directory(Baldur's Gate install directory) to the linux partition. than you must install Wine 1.5.20 or grater, mesa driver to 9.0, install Graphic Drivers for your system. For a 64 bit OS (I was running Fedora 18 kernel version 3.7.2-201.fc18.x86_64 at the time of my initial test) I have installed 32 bit libraries to support 32 bit applications. I had the error "err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution." whitch I fixed by installing Samba, I have found the fix here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19444&iTestingId=63699&bShowAll=true in the section "Steam client crash when authenticating user. ". and error "libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast", to fix this I installed 32 bit nvidia libs with the command "yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686"

Will not install properly
by Brent Bowman on Saturday March 30th 2013, 12:26
I don't know how any of your got this to install. I am running

Ubuntu 12.10
wine 1.4.1

I started with a fresh .wine directory, installed dotnet35sp1 with winetricks, then installed the BGEEInstaller from Beamdog.

For me it just gives me an unhandled exception and crashes. I understand that I'm supposed to put in my credentials somewhere I've tried with the Beamdog client and that gives me the same results.

What else do I need to have installed?

Here is the console output when installing BGEE:

Make sure you've installed libtxc_dxtn, specifically libtxc_dxtn.i686 as the game is 32 bit. This fixed the problem for me.

Has anyone tried the Steam version yet? I'm wondering if it doesn't use the non-working installer/updater.

windowed mode problem
by sam on Thursday January 17th 2013, 14:03
not sure how to modify/update my wine test result so I am making a post for it.

there is a slight bug when switching from windowed mode back to full screen, going from full screen to windowed mode works perfectly but the other way around there is some funny behavior (not really sure how to describe it), but to get back you must set it to full screen mode at witch point you will experience "the odd behavior" than you must kill the BGEE application that is running, when you start up BGEE again it will be back to Full screen mode.
