Affected documents open regularly in LibreOffice and older Wine wersions (? 6.x).
Workarounds
This problem can be mitigated by downgrading Wine version - tested Wine 6.0.
I suspect that the issue stems from new PE format for modules introduced in Wine 7.0.

Thesaurus: To get the thesaurus to work, set riched20.dll to (native) in winecfg, Note that you do not have to copy the dll from a Windows partition or use winetricks to install it. Office 2003 installs its own version of richedit in a private directory, but Wine will not use it unless you set the override. Do not set the override globally unless Office is installed in a separate wineprefix.
Bullets: All but two of the default bullets are from the Wingdings font. If you want them to look the same as on Windows, install that font.
gdiplus: starting with Â1.1.38, set to native, builtin. This
override is not needed for earlier versions, as prior to 1.1.38 the
default behavior was to favor gdiplus that was installed Âby the app
itself.Do not set the override globally unless Office is installed in a separate wineprefix.
If using native gdiplus causes Word to crash, the most likely cause is nonconformant ttf fonts installed on your system. (Ubuntu in particular is known to be afflicted.) Run winetricks fontfix to fix this.
