What works

The installation, opening excel, typing in the spreadsheet, and saving files all work. Formatting text Works.

Visual Basic for Applications won't open the first time opening Excel, if I close and reopen it I can launch VBA and start to code. When I type an opening parenthesis in the VBA editor excel crashes.

What does not

Richedit error when trying to format cells with a number, you cannot select anything in the box under general.

VBA is not useable.

Native alternatives for non-windows platforms

There are some good alternatives to this application that might exist for your platform. You'll find a list on the main page of this application.

Follow the instructions in the Microsoft Office (installer only) entry for installing. After installing:

To use the thesaurus, set riched20 to native.
Starting with Â1.1.38, set gdiplus toÂ native, builtin. This override is not needed for earlier versions, as prior to 1.1.38 the default behavior was to favor gdiplus that was installed Âby the app itself. Â Â If using native gdiplus causes ExcelÂ to crash, the most likely cause is nonconformant ttf fonts installed on your system. (Ubuntu in particular is known to be afflicted.) Run winetricks fontfix to fix this.

It is not necessary to install either of these dlls, as OÂffice installs its own version. Do not set these overrides globally unless Office is installed in a separate wineprefix.
