What works

Tested DVDFab version 9.3.1.2

  • Installation (≥Windows Vista)
  • In-place auto-update
  • License activation
  • Blu-Ray Copy (Full Disc)
  • Blu-Ray Copy (Main Movie)
Tested with a couple of commercial Blu-Ray discs (Jaws and James Bond: The Spy Who Loved Me). The disc image files were mountable (type udf) and played back flawlessly with Kodi (including Java menu support) under Gentoo/Linux.

What does not

Nothing (as tested - see above)

HowTo / Notes

Installation

You need:

  • You are recommended to use the latest release of Wine. You can get instructions on how to install the latest release here.
Wine versions ≥1.9.12 (development) or ≥1.8.4 (stable) are required to avoid a crash dialog - see bug 40691.
  • It is highly recommended to use a clean Wineprefix as DVDFab uses it's own bundled, modified native Windows dlls.

How to install:

First of all, you need to open your winecfg and be sure that Windows Version is at least Windows Vista, because the DVDFab installer will fail with earlier Windows versions.

export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=" ❚❚❚❚❚❚ "
wine ~/Downloads/DVDFab9312.exe

A 32-bit Wineprefix is highly recommended! Substitute your DVDFab installer version & location - as required.

Deselect the option to immediately launch the application... See below for the correct way to launch the application. This is to ensure the custom, bundled Visual C++ libraries are used (in preference to the fake Wine dll's).

Launching

How to launch:

export WINEPREFIX=" ❚❚❚❚❚❚ "
cd "${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/Program Files/DVDFab 9"
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcr90,msvcr120,msvcp120=n,b" wine DVDFab.exe

A 32-bit Wineprefix is highly recommended! Substitute your DVDFab installation location - as required.

The WINEDLLOVERRIDES env variable is used to ensure DVDFab's custom, bundled Visual C++ 2008 & 2013 libraries are used (in preference to the fake Wine dll's). See bug 36954 for more information.

The dll env overrides can be made permanent, for your Wineprefix, by adding them using the winecfg Libraries tab:

  • msvcr90 (native,builtin)
  • msvcr120 (native,builtin)
  • msvcp120 (native,builtin)

The WINEDLLOVERRIDES env variable can then be omitted.
