Trespasser runs best with the software renderer on wine for me. My 2 Ghz Core 2 produces interactive frame rates in 1280x1024, that I don't get under Vista with either hardware or software rendering, possibly due to the game's hard coded 16-bit color depth.

Be sure to check out ATX Trespasser. It fixes the in-game ESC menu (which uses to close again if you hold ESC down for longer that a frame) and allows you to enable a lot of experimental features that were disabled at release to prevent different types of bugs from occurring. Like the raptor jump attack, which is enabled now by default, but could rarely result in the poor reptile getting stuck in other physics objects. Others worth noting: random dino placement, higher resolutions than 800x600, difficulty settings (HP modifiers on player and dinos), night mode, cheats, improved modability and AI.
