Game runs well, tested most missions and they run all the way through. See extra comments for installation instructions.
What does not
Aerosoft launcher does not run, but there is a workaround using Aerosoft mini launcher.
Some missions crash whilst loading. There seems to be a problem between PhysX and the DirectX sound drivers. The missions run fine before the sound drivers are installed (or if the sound is set to oss in Wine), but with no sound. I have not been able to fix this as yet.
What was not tested
Not all missions and schedules tested. Those that were tested all worked (see the sound issue above).
Create a new blank wrapper with Wineskin Winery. Use Winetricks to install vcrun 2005 and 2008 (I used WS9Wine1.4.1 some later versions time out whilst installing) Install devenum and quartz. Install World of Subways 3 and the Aerosoft launcher, but do not run the Aerosoft launcher when it has installed. You do not need to run it, but it must be installed for the game to run later. Download a full version of DirectX9 June 2010. I used the following link (copy and paste in browser). http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download ... px?id=8109 Put the downloaded file ('Directx_Jun2010_redist.exe') in the 'Program Files' folder of the wrapper and create a new folder (I named mine DirectX) in the Program Files folder also. Run the 'Directx_Jun2010_redist.exe' program, selecting the folder you have just created as the destination. This will extract all the files. You only need the following files (delete the rest). If you don't delete the other files the game will run, but crashes at various points. DSETUP.dll dsetup32.dll dxdllreg_x86.cab DXSETUP.exe dxupdate.cab Jun2010_XACT_x64.cab Jun2010_XACT_x86.cab Jun2010_XAudio_x64.cab Jun2010_XAudio_x86.cab Run the 'DXSETUP.exe' file which will then install the latest audio drivers, otherwise you will get no sound. Download the Aerosoft mini launcher from http://aerosoft2.de/downloads/launcher/ ... ng&menue=1 Put the mini launcher folder in the 'Program files' folder of the wrapper. Ensure the Wine engine is at least WS9Wine 1.5.12. Run the Aerosoft mini launcher 'ASviewer.exe'. Click on the 'Simulation' tab and click 'Activate (online)' next to World of Subways 3. You have to press enter to close the 'Activation successful' dialogue, the mouse just moves it around the screen (at least for me). Close the mini launcher, it won't be needed again unless you create another World of Subways wrapper. I set ddr=opengl in Winetricks as the game uses an openGL based graphics engine, but it is probably not needed. Run the game 'Wos3.exe'. You will need to experiment with the best graphics settings. I use the following. Full screen ON Simple lighting sys. ON Vertical sync. OFF Anisotropic filter about 25% above minimum (slider control) Motion blur OFF Shadow details LOW - causes stuttering otherwise View distance HIGH Depth of field blur OFF Terrain details about 33% above minimum (slider control) Bump mapping OFF - Gives lots of texture to the track, but can cause slowdowns Glow ON Mirrors OFF Environmental reflections STATIC Setting the passenger numbers too high causes major stuttering at the stations, but it can be turned down. I had to change some of the key controls as some of them did not work (any on the numeric keypad, just changed them to the normal number keys and the interact key I changed to I). The game runs well now, the graphics are good on my system. They would be stunning with a top graphics card I would imagine.
