Selected Test Results

What works

The most basic graphics settings, some livery re-applications to 3rd-party buses e.g. the Solaris Urbino 10 III, some buses. Only tested in 'Grundorf', the sandbox village with no AI vehicles or people.

Requires WINE to be in Virtual Desktop mode and set to Windows Vista, 7 or 8.

Requires window borders to be drawn by WINE and not by any Linux window manager, desktop environment or decorator.

Requires Direct3D 3.5 (Winetricks)

What does not

The installer (workaround: install in Windows within a virtual machine on your Linux PC, copy the files out from its Program Files in the virtual image to Wine's Program Files on your hard drive. Run from the OMSI.exe file directly, links seem not to work.)

The Aerosoft Launcher

High powered graphics settings (throws 'Zugriffsverletzung' Errors when set higher than pretty much the minimum with Nvidia proprietary driver 270.41.06 on Pinguy OS (Ubuntu remix) 11.04 64-bit Linux 2.6.38-16-generic GNOME 2.32.1 8GB RAM & AMD Phenom II X6 1090T)

Hof Creator (separate but related program to make 'Hof files' which are route, bus stop, matrix display and terminus information files) (Workaround: use in a Virtualbox and copy the Hof file out to the Wine OMSI directory)

Applying a new livery to a pre-included MAN SD202 double decker of any kind - leads to a plain metal preview or a preview with interior image only, then placement of the bus in any simulation causes a freeze-crash. The same new livery was tested on a Windows 8 laptop without problem.

3rd party bus the Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 will load on a Windows 8 laptop we have here, but not on this WINE install - causes a crash by being present in the selection menu.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Attempting to run a full size simulation with people and AI vehicles.

Applying a livery to the included MAN SD200 double decker (because they're old and I wanted a shinier newer bus)

Map creation

Bus creation

Additional Comments

This is only just a Garbage rating, on account of it needing a Virtualbox with Windows to install it on first. One can drive a bus in this simulator on its most basic settings, but one cannot use it to its full potential at all through Wine.
