What works
once the application has been installed using the trial edition of crossover office (get it at http://www.codeweavers.com/products/download_links/) I just had to rename ~.cxoffice/win98 to ~.wine, got rid of crossover office, then it worked like a charm on wine
What does not
installation using standard wine; quickbooks installs fine with wine 0.9.7, but the internet explorer installation fails; installing IE afterwards with a different wine version only makes quickbooks crash
