Version 8

The Proteus Design Suite is wholly unique in offering the ability to co-simulate both high and low-level micro-controller code in the context of a mixed-mode SPICE circuit simulation. With this Virtual System Modelling facility, you can transform your product design cycle, reaping huge rewards in terms of reduced time to market and lower costs of development.

If one person designs both the hardware and the software then that person benefits as the hardware design may be changed just as easily as the software design. In larger organisations where the two roles are separated, the software designers can begin work as soon as the schematic is completed; there is no need for them to wait until a physical prototype exists.

In short, Proteus VSM improves efficiency, quality and flexibility throughout the design process..

What works

- Schematic construction

- PCB design - Schematic->PCB netlisting

- Component making

- Part of simulation framework was tested, it seems to work.

What does not

- 3D visualization eats lots of CPU and is generally slow

- Sometimes during simulation cursor goes to "panning mode" and doesn't go back. - Filtering components in a list is a bit slower than in Windows version.

- License - for license processing see comments.

What was not tested

- Connection with hardware, programmers, evaluation boards

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

LICENSE FILE: If it's going to be installed in a company network with network license key, installation should work. If it's going to be installed in a local computer with separate license file, license manager may not start during setup. To override it, install Proteus as in network license, adding local license file after installation by running license.exe in bin subdirectory of Proteus installation folder and adding/activating proper file.

HowTo / Notes

[ BUG FIX ] 37255 Proteus 8 Access violation in module 'VGDVC.DLL'

Error : Proteus 8 Access violation in module 'VGDVC.DLL'

Workaround :

go to winetricks, if you don't have it, you can install it :

sudo aptitude install winetricks

sudo apt-get install winetricks

then open the GUI, either from the menu or a console :

winetricks --gui

then check, "Select the default wineprefix" and press OK.

then check, "Run regedit" and press OK again.

Now go to :

 -> Software
   -> Labcenter Electronics
     -> Proteus 8 Professional

You should have the key "Default Graphics Mode" set to some particular integer like 3 or 2.

Change that to 1 by clicking on it twice and entering the number 1.

And you're done, this fix have been proven to work for Proteus 8x under Wine 1.8.7 under Debian Stretch. And should also work for other versions.

That was bloody easy wasn't it.
