What works

Pretty much everything.

What does not

Sometimes the «Exit» button on the main menu as well as the on the in-game menu doesn't work and hangs up instead of closing the game.

Workarounds

• Use a 32-bit Wine
• Install d3dx9_42 d3dx9_42 and quartz via winetricks d3dx_41 d3dx9_42 quartz. Otherwise the game will crash on start screen. The exact set of libraries you are installing may differ depending on the exact version you are using. I had luck with v3.04 and the set above. In the worst case you may try installing the whole directx9.  
• Optionally install the dotnet20 via winetricks dotnet20; to make the launcher (victoria2.exe) work. Otherwise, you may always start the game manually with v2game.exe passing appropriate mod options from the command line (e.g. wine v2game.exe -mod=mod/my.mod)
• Install 32-bit versions of gstreamer codecs. (i.e. packages gstreamer1.0-alsa:i386, gstreamer1.0-plugins-base:i386, gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386 , gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly:i386).
• Do NOT install devenum library via winetrics. If you already have it installed or it came with a directx9 package, than switch it to «builtin» via winetricks. Otherwise the music in game will be missing.

What was not tested

• Multiplayer
• A game further than a couple of (in game) years.

Additional Comments

Use a 32-bit prefix for the game, or else the launcher wont work no matter what.
