Additional Comments

The game was not playing last time because I had a corrupt msxml3.dll file in Windows/System32 folder and this caused an installation problem trying to install the WMF11 redist package that comes with the game. After downloading the correct DLL I could once again install all 3 packages (DirectX, VCRedist and WMF11). The game obviously needs libraries that either come installed in Windows 7 by default or you need to install them by hand (Even on Windows) so I rated Platinum because this has nothing to do with how Wine performs but on what the game needs that the user has to install manually. On Windows XP for example you need to install all 3 packages. ADMIN NOTE: rating changed to conform to the rating definitions. Make sure you have all the winetricks packages I mentioned below installed. Run "winetricks list-installed" to see which ones you have installed. Some need other packages installed first to proceed. Others need to download certain files (Like the .NET). This is needed even on windows. The whole list is not specific to this game but covers a whole range of games that will work out of the box after installing them all, like Dead Space 3. MBD - Intel DZ68DB CPU - Intel i7 3770k RAM - 16 GB RAM SSD - Intel 120 GB VID - Nvidia 560TI (319.17) OS Mode - Windows 7 For 64 Bit users like me, you need to make sure the game is running on ARCH 32 Bit (Since the game also has a problem on Windows 64 bit when using Windows 7 Ultimate). To do this you need to have a fresh Wine installation using 32 Bit. So please backup anything you need from .wine before continuing. Do the following after having successfully backed up anything you needed from .wine: rm -fr ~/.wine export WINEARCH=win32 export WINEPREFIX="/home/USER/.wine" winecfg Change USER to your user account in my case it looks like this: rm -fr ~/.wine export WINEARCH=win32 export WINEPREFIX="/home/cyrex/.wine" winecfg This will create a .wine environment that is 32 Bit. Now proceed to install all the winetricks packages mentioned below. One by one. Some packages need to have another package previously installed first. They will tell you when they give you the error. The point of this is to have all of this packages installed so the game works perfectly. - winetricks list-installed - amstream corefonts d3dcompiler_43 d3dx10 d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 d3dx9_26 d3dx9_28 d3dx9_31 d3dx9_35 d3dx9_36 d3dx9_39 d3dx9_42 d3dx9_43 d3dx9 dirac directx9 ffdshow icodecs l3codecx mfc42 msvcirt physx quartz vcrun2008 vcrun2010 vcrun6sp6 vcrun6 winhttp wininet wsh56vb wsh57 xact_jun2010 xact xinput xna40 xvid If you happen to have some sound issues (Not my case but just in case) then go to your game folder in "Dead Island Riptide/DI/Out/Settings". You will find a file there called Audio.src. Open this file with gedit or any other text editor and on line 19 where it says API("XAudio2") change that to API("aOpenAL") and save the file. That should fix the sound ingame.
