What works
Single player: intro, briefings, planning, action phase, training all work normally. The game is very playable and enjoyable.
What does not
As previous tests results show: some polygons flicker and sometimes a random sound during the action phase will loop annoyingly or random sounds are heard for no apparent reason. Very seldomly there are issues with resetting preferences like mouse look, sensitivity.
Workarounds
You need to use a No-CD crack otherwise the game complains and exits. There's very likely one for the version you want to play on the Internet, just search a bit. Install it before you do anything else.
The soundtrack is stored as audio tracks (i.e. not files) on the game's CD. This is unusual from modern perspective but was normal back then. If you want the awesome soundtrack you'll have to rip the audio tracks as, say, OGG files and install a winmm.dll wrapper which allows you to load audio files as virtual CD audio tracks. There are many such wrappers, I use https://github.com/ayuanx/ogg-..., because it seems to be updated regularly (check the other forks), another option is https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/. Note that the filenames have to be track02.ogg, track03.ogg etc. and there is no track01.ogg. That's because the first CD track is the binary data of the game itself. Whichever wrapper you chose, follow the installation instructions. In the general case you have to drop a winmm.dll (+ probably some supplementary files) into the game's directory. Rename this file _inmm.dll because otherwise there'd be a collision with Wine's own winmm.dll. After that patch RogueSpear.exe such that all occurrences of the string winmm.dll are replaced by _inmm.dll (search for lower and upper case or case-insensitive). One way to do this is with hexcurse. Backup your .exe file before you do this! Finally start the game and see if the soundtrack is working.

Additional Comments
Mainly tested version 2.05 after installing 2.02. The game is very stable but CPU activity seems a bit high for a game of that age and certainly higher than games 2-3 years older.
