Additional Comments
This is going to be a mouthful, so please bare with me. The standard way for one to download the game would be by using their MapleStory Downloader which in turn uses the Pando Media Booster. The Pando Media Booster is plagued with bugs and never runs correctly on wine. Luckily, Nexon offers the alternate download. Once you have downloaded the files, the installer runs, however does not display any buttons for you to interact with. The solution is to hit tab and enter, leaving to faith that you have clicked the next button. First you agree to the EULA. Then you select where to install. After that the game should install, without showing you the progress. But rest assured it is working. The default location for the game launcher in your wine prefix is C:/Nexon/MapleStory/ . There are several .exe's in this folder. I found running Setup.exe file just opens up my browser to their website. Selecting play from the browser results in a pop-up that says for me to download the game or to wait for it to finish downloading if I already started. Also, I installed the windows version of firefox using wine and attempted to launch the game that way. Selecting play from their website did nothing. There was no pop-up as with my native browser (also firefox). Running GameLauncher.exe on wine does work however. The Game Launcher appears, advertising in game items and game events. However, selecting Play does not launch the game. There is, however, a single output on the terminal: err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 136 bytes in thread 0026 eip 7bc7d75c esp 002412a8 stack 0x240000-0x241000-0x340000 I don't know quite how to interpret this. Perhaps this should be filed as a new wine bug on bugzilla. There is also a Patcher.exe file and a Setup.exe file. Setup.exe is just a program that adjusts MapleStory's settings to your monitors frequency. This works correctly. Patcher.exe runs exactly as MapleStory.exe did. I should comment that I am using an older version of wine as it is the default on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail. Ubuntu by default uses the latest stable release, so it will never use the most current version of wine.
