What works

winmxworld.com/help/winmx-wine.html lists the only known bug (after fixing oledlg.dll) as:

  • The only thing not working properly is bringing windows back to front with the top tabs like settings, browses etc.
Once they're in the background you need to move aside the main window to find them again, they get hidden behind it.
Other than that WinMX runs flawlessly for days

On wine-5.13 (Staging) on VM running Fedora 32 w/ kernel 5.7.10-201.fc32.x86_64 I can access the browse, whois, ignored user, empty library prompt windows, etc from the menu bar. It creates a menu called WinMX that lists the open windows where I can select a window to open and bring to the front. Mac does something Similar with a menu called "Window" instead of the name of the app.

What does not

As others have said here and on winmxworld.com/help/winmx-wine.html you have to configure wine to use WinMX's oledlg.dll instead of the stock one. The only other issue reported there seems to have been fixed, see "What works" for details.

Oh, there is no minimize button on Gnome even though I have gnome-tweaks installed and enabled the minimize button and there is a minimize button on native Linux apps and Robo MX (Also works under Wine :] )

Workarounds

As others have said here and on winmxworld.com/help/winmx-wine.html you have to configure wine to use WinMX's oledlg.dll instead of the stock one.

What was not tested

So far I only tested chat and the window stacking bug which seems to be fixed. I am in the process of copying my library over and as a result have no shares, so upload has yet to be tested. I tested searching for a file, starting the download and deleting the "Remotely Queued" file.

Tested changing some of the settings.

For Wine 0.9.60 and up

The only dll override needed now is for the connection patch, i.e. oledlg.dll.

A little tutorial on how to run WinMX on current WINE can be found here:
