The game crashes because it is intended for single CPU use. (I heard that the same problem occurred on windows)

On Sierra I had to install Xcode and select single CPU use:

Go to finder --> Xcode--> Show package contents--> Contents--> Applications--> Instruments.
Select preferences
Go to CPUs and select 1 CPU
I also disabled Hardware Multi-Threading

After that the game worked flawlessly for me.
