Additional Comments

The Gold rating is because a bit of tweaking is needed. In the default installation it happens that the game is rendered only in top left part of the screen, while the rest stays black. In other words the game is difficult-to-impossible to play. Here is an how-to to have a working game, I assume you start from a clean win32 wineprefix. . In addition to the game download the SuperFrontendHD full package (3.34 MB) from http://worms2d.info/SuperFrontendHD , . (optional) download the missing content from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=156231406 , . install and execute the game, . in the first run the game asks to configure itself for Wine, answer "Yes," . go in the Options menu and setup the game resolution you want, . go in the Options->Advanced menu and enable "Load WormKitModules" and disable "Force Wine Virtual Desktop", . leave the game, . unpack the SuperFrontendHD and eventually the missing content in the installation directory, . execute winecfg and setup the virtual desktop to the same resolution you setup in the game. Now the game should work fine, enjoy.

About instruction

First of all, HD Frontend mod is not required. If you don't mind high resolution main menu.
Second, you don't need enabling virtual desktop in wine - works perfectly without it.

I cannot confirm the virtual desktop part. On Debian 9 (wine 2.9, nVidia proprietary drivers, Cinnamon DE) I get flickering graphics without it.
Workaround does indeed work

ezzetabi's workaround works on wine-staging 2.0-rc3. There are minor graphics glitches in the menus where the virtual taskbar is located but the game itself works flawlessly. It's definitely no less than Gold.
