Additional Comments

Early areas in Wizardry 8 work flawlessly, but after a few hours of progression there are some notable issues. The issues include: missing distant fog to hide missing terrain (optimization) and severe frame-rate reductions with no determinable cause. The following steps fixed the issues for me and may fix similar issues, but I cannot guarantee this beyond testing is on two different machines. The steps involve the following: 1. Navigate to the Wizardry 8 folder in your Wine folder. 2. Open the file named "3DVideo.cfg". 3. The lines correspond to the following (Default Option): API Usage (Glide2x), Resolution X (800), Resolution Y (600), Texture Resolution (16), Audio Device (May Be System Dependent). 4. Change the first line from "Glide2x" to "DirectX7" or "OpenGL". This will disable the use of the NGlide and thus the settings from "nglide_config.exe" will no longer apply. I experienced identical performance with both DirectX7 and OpenGL, but OpenGL did have a small graphical glitch "grid" pattern that was only noticeable in menus. 5. Therefore, you need to adjust the 2nd and 3rd lines to your desired resolution settings. Tested 800x600 and 1366x768. Additionally, change "16" to "32" if you desire better texture resolutions. This appears to be the highest texture resolution after testing several values. 6. The game should now run properly, without frame-rate reductions in any areas and fog should now be visible covering missing terrain. Reference Images: 1.
