What works

Everything related to gameplay itself.

What does not

The game suffers from a memory leak and gets slower as time goes on. Eventually it either consumes the computer's entire memory or becomes unbearably slow and requires a restart.

Crashes are much, much more often compared to Windows. They happen every thirty or so in-game years for me.

The in-game screenshot tool does not work and instead saves black pictures into the screenshots folder.

The game might fail to work at all and show a black screen instead, but tinkering with the settings should eventually get it working.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Multiplayer, mods.

  • GPU: Nvidia

To get the game to work, install d3dcompiler_43,d3dx9,c++ 2015. All are under winetricks. Also to remove the visual memory error, just pick the option to make ur wine dispaly 2048mb of visual memory

I am trying to get this to work but I still get the blank screen. Any chance that I could get a step by step on how you are doing this and how you are launching the game?
After I configure via winetricks I then run wine eu4.exe and just get the blank screen.

I'm launching through Steam, still got the black screen after clicking play in the launcher. Setting it to windowed mode in the launcher fixed it for me.

- Installations works but game starts with black window

- looked into error log:
c:\Users\USER\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\logs\error.log
... SimpleVertexShader.vertexshader error: syntax error, unexpected NEW_IDENTIFIER ...

- winetricks d3dcompiler_43 fixed it for me
