what ended up working for me was using winetricks uplay then let Uplay install Steam. I am pretty sure winetricks made it's own prefix for uplay. then installed tahoma using "winetricks" and others reccomended for compliancy with Uplay steam and Settlers 7. I also ran winecfg for the .uplay prefix and altered xwrite (i think) as the guides show for steam
