What works

Once you manage to fool the MSI installer the application runs out of the box. All features the were of concern to me worked. Only commenting features were extensively tested.

What does not

The MSI installer fails for many people both on Linux and Windows. This is due to it being dependent on some Windows services to install the PDF printer spooler apparently.

 However, because the MSI installer is simply a wrapper for extracting the program files from the .msi archive and because the installer only fails after it has already copied the program files to your disk, you can still "install" the program.

The following sequence worked for me:

$ wine start .msi

Click through all the options and start the installation.

Monitor the installation folder in a terminal using

$ ls -al

 You may need to spam this command repeatedly. You will see how the installer is copying the program files into your selected directory.

When the file "fpdfcjk.bin" appears, immediately kill the installer by ending the Wine process using a task manager or simply.

$ kill

 If you wait too long the installer will start the rollback procedure and delete your files. If this happens simply repeat the process above until you get the timing right.

If you manage to get it right you will have a fully functional copy that works with Wine.

Additional Comments

Gold rating because of messy installation process. When you get it to install it's a really nice piece of software and it behaves nicely under Wine.
