What does not
What was not tested
Note : presently available version of Xnview is 2.44. I used 2.20 because that's what I had on my HDD when testing it in Wine.
I made this test with Wine because I was not satisfied by XnviewMP in Linux. It should be an enhanced version of XnView Classic, but.... I had difficulties with handling of .jp2 files downloaded from French IGN Geoportail "Remonter le temps".
I knew one solution is with the plug-in "LuraWave JPEG-2000" (lwf_jp2.dll), I have it on a Windows XP machine with 2 GB RAM. But there I have "lack of memory" problem when processing big files, 15 Mo or more.
Eventually, The better results I have are with my Linux Unbuntu PC (4 GB RAM), with Xnview running under Wine (and the LuraWave JPEG-2000 plug-in). I successfully converted some .jp2 files about 14000x14000 pixels (40 MB), toward .jpg format.
