What works

Successfully installed application (installation appeared to hang, but a fully functioning installation was created)

Managed to connect to an IRCX Server that is dedicated to Microsoft Chat (Comic Chat) users. Successfully joined this server's main chat room

Unlike previous tests, comic panes, characters, and message balloon now display correctly and flawlessly.User's character and background successfully set. Outgoing poses are set from the wheel on the right and sent out to the room. Automatic toggling of emotions and poses based on keywords in outgoing message also works.

Confirmed function of regular speech bubbles, as well as whisper bubbles, action panes, and the automatated sending and receiving of CTCP-based "coffee cup" away messages, identify, profile, and version inquiries.

Successfully receives, interprets, and displays comic character data from other Microsoft Chat users.

Successfully able to download other users' custom comic chat character files (AVB file extension).

Successfully plays sounds

Automation/rules seem to work. Successfully set up and confirmed the functioning of a rule wherein a sound is played on the local machine any time a user sends a message to a room.

Maintained several hours of connectivity and the sending and receiving of messages without any issues yet detected

What does not

Space bar initially did not work prior to installation of additional component via winetricks.

Used winetricks to install riched20; this resolves the known issue in previous tests wherein the space bar does not work. I also used winetricks to install ie6 preemptively.

What was not tested

I did not attempt to install the application without having already installed ie6.

I did not attempt to run the send/receive files feature.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

It was not obvious until checking the "Program Files" directory that the installation program worked successfully. After clicking "Yes" to install, a dialogue box demonstrating the unpacking of files quickly appeared and then disappeared. Left with a hanging terminal prompt. I was forced to run ^C to regain control of the terminal.

Unlike testing on earlier versions of Wine, comic panes are now generated perfectly.

This was tested on an IRCX Server that is dedicated to Microsoft Chat, which has not been updated since 1998. Usage of this software on other IRC servers may cause different results
