Carmageddon TDR 2000

The third title in the Carmageddon series.

There are three modes of play: "Free Play", which consists of 30 races across 9 different environments; "Campaign", which consists of 30 races across 9 different environments and 25, challenging and individual missions, "Multiplayer", which features 5 different Death-Match arenas with 7 different network games. The last mode represents the core of the game. Animated props such as working cranes, lifts and bridges produce a gaming environment which seems to be alive. For the first time you can customise your car. The people in the maps are interactin with their environment, like crossing streets or waiting in front of theatres. The cops are also back again, so watch out!

Technically the game is up-to-date measured to it's release. Reflections, Rain, Smoke, Shadows, Surround Sound, ... Now drive em to hell!

Old test results
The test results for this version are very old, and as such they may not represent the current state of Wine. Please consider submitting a new test report.
Selected Test Results

What works

  • Installing the game and the expansion
  • Single player with 3D acceleration with no changes to TDR2000.gfx necessary
  • Single player with software rendering
  • Starting a TCP/IP multiplayer game
  • Intro videos play correctly
  • Cheats

What does not

Nothing that I can think of at the moment

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Joining a multiplayer game of any kind (I'll look into this later)
  • Starting a multiplayer serial, modem or IPX game
  • Extensive testing of graphics options
  • CD audio as a no-CD crack was used

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

I'm rating this gold as I believe that the correctly functioning 3D and multiplayer hosting without changing game files is a marked improvement over older WINE releases.

HowTo / Notes

always regenerate TDR2000.gfx when changing wine version
Recently there is done a lot on wined3d. If you change the wine version and encouter graphics issues don't file a bug too fast. Regenerate the TDR2000.gfx file first and retest. The game has a overreliance on that file.
Fix bugs 8854 and 28168

If you want to play Carmageddon TDR 2000 with changeable controls and cheating console with every language, then you need the following code.

Git repo: https://github.com/sriemer/wine

Branch: carmaTDR

Commits:

  • winex11.drv/keyboard: fix MAPVK_VK_TO_CHAR mapping
  • dinput: Always update key/mouse state

With directx9 installed multiplayer works fine (except race leaving - it hangs up game)
CD required, but game cannot found it
by Pavel Cejka on Saturday September 10th 2005, 13:58
I have original CD from company "Sold out". Game can be installed only from copy in ./wine/drive_e for example, because during instalation from real CD fails with error 4 (only 4, not more).

After installation installed game cannot be started, game wants original CD what i have and CD was mounted and /mnt/cdrom was symlinked to ./wine/dosdevices as ~d:

I tested some no-cd cracks, but with more problems. With all cracks game faild with any error.

This is not too big problem. Now i found usable crack, my version is now playable without original CD inserted in drive.
