What works

Installation on 64bit-prefix and at least Win7 environment works after some dll’s have been pre-installed with winetricks, see workarounds section;
msxml3 might be sufficient for installation but more might be needed for running the program.

Programm hangs at startup when scanning “Media Core”, if original “wmvcore.dll” from a native Windows installation is missing. Search for “wmvcore” in Windows partition brings 3x wmvcore.dll in different subdirectories in “windows” folder plus 2 “manifest” folders. Copying these to the same position in “drive_c/windows/” subdirectories will make AE run.

If installation of “vcredist 2008 x64” gives an error message, copying original file from native windows installation might help (in my case a non-working installation of version CS5 did not run but brought working vcredist for CS6)

Working features:

  • Creating new composition
  • Change duration of existing composition
  • change attributes of composition
  • Rendering a composition

What does not

  • "Font not CFF type" error message has to be clicked away about 10 times, then program runs fine
  • Doubleclicking a media file (for previewing e.g. video file) might cause complete crash of program

I have a problem. You said that there should be 3 vmwcore.dll files in Windows directory. Well, I actually have 10 of them and I don't know which of these I should copy.

Hi Grabo,

in my case I found up to 4 wmvcore.dll, it should be sufficient to use the ones in these directories:
c:/Windows/System32
c:/Windows/SysWOW64

Maybe it might run only when also used these ones:
c:/Windows/winsxs/amd64_microsoft.........../
c:/Windows/winsxs/x86_microsoft.........../
In case of the last two directories, I recommend to also copy the amd64.../x86....-manifest files in the /winsxs/manifests directory

Good luck ;-)

Alright. I did everything and it's working. I also installed some plugins such as Magic Bullet Looks, Particular, Saber and Sapphire and these are working. Thank you so much for your effort to make AE work :).
