What works
Application is able to be installed after following some workarounds.
What does not
Application needs winetricks to install.
After install, program launches but gets stuck on splash screen with message "Initializing Mediacore".
Tried copying wmvcore.dll from a Windows 10 installation that was running After Effects CS6 (C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and C:\Windows\System32) into the respective wine directories but the message did not go away.
Workarounds
winetricks msxml3 atmlib riched20 riched30 msxml6 gdiplus quicktime76 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 xvid wmp11 vcrun6sp6 corefonts tahoma
vcrun2008 x64 may fail to install so had to switch wine temporarily to windows xp for just that one pacakge and then switch back to windows 7 for the rest.
What was not tested
Nothing could be tested. After Effects will not load past the "Initializing Mediacore" message on the launch window.

in my case I found up to 4 wmvcore.dll, it should be sufficient to use the ones in these directories:
c:/Windows/System32
c:/Windows/SysWOW64
Maybe it might run only when also used these ones:
c:/Windows/winsxs/amd64_microsoft.........../
c:/Windows/winsxs/x86_microsoft.........../
In case of the last two directories, I recommend to also copy the amd64.../x86....-manifest files in the /winsxs/manifests directory
