King's Bounty: the Legend (new, 2008)

What works

With the proper adjustments to the Wrapper this program is fully functional.  It is possible to:

• watch the opening video sequence;
• change game options from the options screen;
  
• start a new game;
• create a character;
• move around the world;
• talk to Non-Player Characters (see note in What does not work section);
• travel between areas;
• pick up items and access the inventory;
• fight battles;
• save games;
  
• load games; and
• exitting (quitting) out of the game using the Main Menu options.
  

What does not

• The font in the Non-Player Character dialogue windows is quite jagged and can be hard to read at times; and
• Soon after starting to play the game the fan on my Mac Book Pro comes on at full speed and does not turn off until after leaving the game (ie. Quitting out of the game)
  

Workarounds

What was not tested

As only the first few minutes of game play have been tested so far the following have not been tested:

• travel in boats, trains, dirigibles, or submarines;
• buying and selling of items; and
• use of Rage demons.

Additional Comments

Two work arounds were required to get this came to function properly: 1) Used WineTricks to install the d3dx9_36 dlls; and 2) Edited the default resolution values to match monitor resolution in the game.ini file stored inside the application package in the following location: drive_c\GOG Games\King's Bounty\data Note that Step 2 may not be necessary if d3dx9_36 dlls are installed first.
