Everything seems to work:
All the menus, everything on low settings, the demo game itself (driving around, crashing, brake lights, ...), uses 350 MB of memory and at least 2 CPU cores.
What does not
Doesn't work out of the box but is fixable.
Slower than on windows, however I cannot test it now for comparison. I recall it doing at least 10 FPS in Win 10.
I installed various things with winetricks.
The trick that did it for me was:
--- Installing d3dcompiler_43
Without this, the game crashes when the progress bar in the bottom right corner tells "Nearly done", before the menu is loaded.
However I also have installed other things:
--- As suggested in an older test result on MAC OS 10.9, wine 1.6.2:
$> winetricks videomemorysize=1024
- installed d3dx9_36
Reading the crash log however it seems that the game demo uses d3dx9_43, so I installed it, too.
I also have 'd3dcompiler_437', 'xinput' and 'xact', if something does not work try those. I barely know what I'm doing.
What was not tested
- Higher resolutions or better detail, for I lack decent hardware.
Hardware: ASUS E200, Intel Atom x5-z8300, 2 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz.
Everything is really slow because of my hardware, with lowest settings and 640x360 I get 6~7 FPS (use 'Ctrl+F' in game for FPS readings) in the provided gridmap demo; 20~30 FPS if you pause the physics with 'J'.
Moreover, changing to highest settings of texture and mesh quality and shader quality does not affect framerate (as in windows).
There are no gauges displayed on screen (speed, gear, pedals, ...), but I don't think there were meant to be any. The beamng watermark is correctly displayed.
