Version 1.1: Steam and Retail
Everything I have tried so far. I have only played the first Island though. Installation into a clean Wine directory works. The game starts and the intro video works. Changing screen resolution works, as does changing other settings. The tutorial videos work. Sound works, both music and sound effects. All gameplay works on the Tutorial Island and First Island, Second Island not tried yet. Loading a save works.
What does not
Nothing tried so far.
What was not tested
The second island.
I am using the GOG.com version of Evil Genius, which is patched to the last official patch and doesn't require a CD to play. No external dlls were used, I am using the built-in Wine Quartz, MSVCRT and DirectX. I did install winegecko, though (but nothing else). I have played for several hours with only one crash. I am unable to reproduce it and not sure if that was Wine or the game, though. I haven't completed the game so I can't give it a Plabtinum rating - yet, as there might be bugs I have to encounter and I did have one crash. I get this error on the console err:dplay:DPLAYX_ConstructData : unable to map static data into process memory space (487) and lots of FIXME's for Directx9, but the game seems to run ok despite this.

Below are instructions from the previous maintainer:
Install native quartz.dll and msvcrt.dll. You can get these online.
Once downloaded place these under:
Perhaps you don't need to do the following step but I did it anyway which is to rename the existing quartz.dll and msvcrt.dll in the same directory for backup and just to be sure that wine picks up the native copies.
With the files placed in the system32 directory run wine configuration usually accessible from the ubuntu applications menu. You can always type winecfg at the terminal to run it.
Next step is to tell wine to use native dls. Go to the libraries tab and from the drop down menu select quartz and cick add. Do the same for msvcrt. Once these are added you need to select each file in the list (i-e: quartz and msvcrt) and click Edit from the options given select "Native (Windows)" for both of them.
wineboot --kill; wineboot --shutdown
winecfgIn Ubuntu this can be done graphically via Applications ← Wine ← Configure Wine

If within the game the moving around while zoomed out this far is slow or choppy, then your video card isn't fast enough to handle this. If this happens, change the
120.0 to number low enough for your video card to handle. You won't zoom out as far, but the movement will get smoother.
[Transitions]section change the values to

Note: Trying to switch the game to windowed mode via Alt+Enter will cause the game crash in full screen mode. If you do this, you'll have to:
