Additional Comments

The game does start and works without the HD patch for a while, but randomly crashes with different errors, some of which do not get logged. HD patch fixes all the crashing problems. Make sure you create an HD executable for HotA, the launcher can't enable HD for HotA without it. The HD Patch can be obtained from https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/download

HowTo / Notes

How-To

TCP/IP Multiplayer

Follow these steps to get traditional TCP/IP multiplayer working:

1. Install directplay dlls as described here.

1.1 Manual install is also possible. Steps are:

  1. Place the following dplayx.dll, dpnet.dll, dpnhpast.dll, dpwockx.dll, dplaysvr.exe in your .wine/drive_c/windows/system32
  2. Set those files to overwrite (native, builtin) in winecfg

2. Remove DPWSOCKX.DLL  from the core game folder (where the .exe files are located).

This workaround was suggested and is described in detail in the comment to a related bug report.
