The problem with the unplayable black/dark screen was actually easily fixed (once found) by changing two settings in ~/CAPCOM/RESIDENT EVIL 6/config.ini that are not exposed in the UI. Changes required: JobThread=4 (default was 7) RenderingThread=OFF (default was ON) Now the game looks fine and, more importantly, it's playable. (I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 with binary drivers.

Installing WMP11

WARNING! FIRST YOU NEED TO INSTALL PREVIOUS WMP VERSIONS WHICH ARE: WMP9 AND WMP10.

If you want to install WMP11 go HERE and download it.

This installer is self extracting archive so you can extract it by any software.

Extract it where you want.
Install wmfdist11.exe.
Kill all processes in Wine.
Install wmp11.exe.
