What works

Works for normal daily use (except opening the "edit" menu, see "what does not work", below).  Install took several minutes (seemingly compiling .net "assemblies").
  • installing (using winetricks, see below);
  • running the program normally;
  • saving files (.pdn format);
  • loading files (.pdn format);
  • opening all menus (except the "edit" menu, see "what does not work", below);
  • undo;
  • effects (gaussian blur, for example);
  • normal "tools" (brush, rectangular select, move pixels, move selection, bucket fill, etc.);
  • layers;
  • using "undo history";
  • copy and paste (using the clipboard shortcuts, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V);

What does not

  • opening the "edit" menu (crashes the program);
  • occasional crashes (sometimes after pressing Ctrl+N ("new file"));
  • occasionally showing high CPU usage (for no apparent reason) (running wine it with 'nice -n 2' helped mitigate the effect on other applications);
If it wasn't for the crashes (especially the Ctrl+N one), I'd be tempted to rate this as "Silver".

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Heavy application use;
  • Loading and saving from/to other file formats;
  • Tools and filters not mentioned above;

Additional Comments

Used wine-1.6.2 ("biarch"), compiled from source (as explained in http://wiki.winehq.org/BuildingBiarchWineOnUbuntu, using the 'lxc' method) on xubuntu-12.04.4 LTS on amd64. Installed using winetricks: $ WINEPREFIX={PATH_TO_OWN_PREFIX} Wine=wine-1.6 WINEARCH=win32 winetricks dotnet20 wsh56 Then manually changed wine configuration to use a native 'gdiplus' (as even the installer started generating warnings in wine's 'gdiplus' implementation): gdiplus (native, builtin) As mentioned above, the installer took several minutes (as mentioned above, probably due to the extensive compilation of .net assemblies that seemed to take place during the installation process). Be patient!
