What works

  • Playing the game, FPS oddly being around the same as running under windows. Slight hickups (small, usually less than .5 seconds) happening often while in a match.
  • Updating (see notes below).
  • Matchmaking with both friends and random players, with both me hosting and joining on other players.
  • In game chat.

What does not

Updating:

  • If the launcher itself needs to be updated it will fail on trying to replace "Launcher.exe" with "Launcher.exe.tmp" due to the file being obviously open by the launcher itself. Simple fix as reported in other versions and on the warframe forum is to manualy remove the old launcher file and rename the new one.
  • Updating the game: Works just fine, however the progress bar stays at "Checking for new content" even though it is actually downloading. Seeing as the launcher only downloads the main game executable then has that download the game files, I am thinking the problem is whatever IPC warframe is using with the launcher not being supported.

Graphics:

  • Rendering works for the most part, as others have noted some surfaces render pure black with no lighting effects, making some tile's interesting to navigate if one does not know there is a solid plane and not a black hole in the map.
  • Sometimes textures show corrupted or seem like they are being provided from the wrong area of memory, but oddly moving around in game seems to make them sort them self out.

Launcher:

  • Main part of the launcher is a web browser frame that displays normally white text on a pure transparent background as to render on top of the launcher's background art, but in WINE shows as a pure white part, which can be read if you click and drag select the text that is there (my thought is the web browser component of WINE does not support drawing a transparent background and ignores the alpha channel (assuming the launcher is giving the browser a pure white, fully transparent, color to use as the background))

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • In game voice chat was not tested as I have always disabled it, and before I disabled it I heard it used like once before (NOTE: I have only used in game voice chat on windows, not in WINE).
  • DirectX 11: The checkbox is disabled in WINE and in windows so can't tell if dx11 effects work or not, nor can I tell if its because my GPU doesn't support dx11 or not (don't think that would/could matter with WINE)
  • Nvidia Physx: Due to not having a Nvidia GPU to start with I can't test to see if the game would even enable the option to turn the effects on.
  •  64 bit: Due to homebrew building WINE as a 32 bit binary it is thus unable to run 64 bit programs; the launcher even detects that it is running in a 32 bit environment and disables the 64 bit checkbox.
