Additional Comments

Here's how I got it running (starting from a fresh wineprefix): Run winecfg, set Windows version to "Windows 7". On libraries tab create a new override for "dxgi", and set it to "native". Install gdiplus using winetricks: winetricks gdiplus Download etax installer: wget https://www.ato.gov.au/misc/downloads/etaxswap/etax2014_1.msi Install etax. Ignore the two crash dialogs that appear and uncheck the "run etax" checkbox at the end: msiexec /i etax2014_1.msi Run as normal from the created icons or from command line. Giving a bronze rating as I think there might be network issues that will prevent pre-filling and submission. If fixes to these can be found then would upgrade to silver.

HowTo / Notes

Web-based MyTax available in 2014

There is a new web-based MyTax system that may be used for people with "straightforward tax affairs". More information here:

https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Lodging-your-tax-return/Lodge-online/
Installing

These instructions are starting from a clean wineprefix.

Run winecfg, set Windows version to "Windows 7". On libraries tab create a new override for "dxgi", and set it to "native".

Install gdiplus using winetricks:

winetricks gdiplus

Download etax installer:

wget https://www.ato.gov.au/misc/downloads/etaxswap/etax2014_1.msi

Install etax. Ignore the two crash dialogs that appear and uncheck the "run etax" checkbox at the end:

msiexec /i etax2014_1.msi

Run as normal from the created icons or from command line.

Using the Help System

The in-built help system will not work, however opening the HTML file in Firefox (Chromium does not work) will let you access all the help documents.

For a 64-bit Wine installation run:

firefox '~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/etax2014/help/client_nav.html'

For a 32-bit Wine installation run:

firefox '~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/etax2014/help/client_nav.html'
Updating

The inbuilt updater does not work for whatever reason. To update, reinstalling the latest version from the ATO website should work:

wget https://www.ato.gov.au/misc/downloads/etaxswap/etax2014_1.msi
msiexec /i etax2014_1.msi
Test Tax File Number

For testing purposes the following tax file number can be used:
