- Installing the application
- Running the application (GUI works as should)
What does not
Can't establish communication with any serial modem (tested with a USR Sportster Flash 166301). Wine spits out "unimplemented ioctl" errors.
(Don't forget to at a symlink from COM1 to /dev/tty* and change the permissions on the serial port)
What was not tested
- Installing the necessary Visual Basic runtime files is possible through wintricks, but I would recommend to stick with the files that are provided by the installer (as some later VB.net versions can cause conflicts) - The problem here is essentially the same as on any WinNT OS: this application requires direct access to COM1 through unsuppored functions. Running the application in Win98 seems to be the only solution for now (even WinXP compatibility modes don't help here). - Any official tools by USRobotics themselves seem to show similar behaviour. If you're lucky you might find a flash upgrade that runs in dos on: ftp://ftp.usr.com/ In that case you can run the tool in dosbox, which should work fine. Newer USR modems (usb modems, etc.) have dedicated linux tools.
