Some faffing around to make this work well. -winetricks directmusic -install 1.2 patch from ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/ff8/ unzip it directly into the game folder. -install Aali's OpenGl driver http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14922.0 , first link in thread broken: mirror link available at https://mega.co.nz/#!SwQCTZwR!6TMWPrJ-6O8qDBzsVZ4jFFObssgzEM7wRES9Efgoe10 again unzip directly to game folder. -set desired resolution in ff8_opengl.cfg provider by previous zip. Windowed, fullscreen, all resolutions I tested seemed to work fine. -if running from iso files: I had some trouble mounting to the standard folders, not sure why. I pointed winecfg(-development)'s d: drive to a non standard folder and mounted the isos there and it worked fine, didn't have to restart game to switch discs unlike other testers here.
