What works

  • Install
  • New account setup
  • Logging in
  • Client list
  • Live chat
  • Sound/Popup alerts
  • Notification/System tray icon
There is a delay in actions, but it is not entirely clear if that is typical or slowness on the server side.

What does not

  • OnSite remote support did not work, but it is unclear if that was a client issue or due to Wine.
  • Clicking on the tray icon does not raise the window to the top, clicking on its taskbar icon does.

What was not tested

  • VoIP
  • Other features not explicitly mentioned

Hardware tested

Additional Comments

The latest version of Kayako Desktop needs vcrun2012. I had to manually copy the DLLs into the windows/system32 dir of the prefix since it wasn't in winetricks when I checked. One of those DLLs needs a function that is only in Wine >= 1.7.11. I tried with Wine 1.7.27 and after following the above instructions, plus upgrading Wine, it works. It is possible that working from a clean slate with Wine 1.7 it may not need those manual steps, but it needs additional testing. To get wine1.7 on an Ubuntu-like system, run: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine1.7 Steps from previous version (copied here): Before installing kayako, create a win32 wineprefix, and install the following winetricks packages: ie8, gdiplus, vcrun2008 WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako winecfg env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako winetricks ie8 env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako winetricks gdiplus env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako winetricks vcrun2008 env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako wine ~/Downloads/KayakoDesktop_4.2.0.702-STABLE.exe NOTE: You may need to manually obtain the DLLs for vcrun2012 until it shows up in winetricks, or unless the installer runs on Wine for you. env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako wine vcredist_x86_2012.exe /install /quiet /norestart NOTE: There is no error on startup as in previous reports. Leaving as Silver due to the DLL issues and minor lag. To create an icon, I made a wrapper script to run the program and the following icon: [Desktop Entry] Kayako Desktop Exec=/home/jim/bin/ Type=Application Categories=Wine; Icon=/home/jim/bin/kayako_desktop_icon.png contains only: #!/bin/bash env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-kayako wine "c:\Program Files\Kayako\Desktop\KayakoDesktop.exe" I was unable to get it running directly from the icon using env as expected, but the wrapper works.
