Issues With Some Ruby Extensions Not Working
by Roy Gilby on Thursday May 28th 2015, 1:53
I'm using Sketchup 2015 (64 Bit) on Wine 1.7.38 (under Ubuntu 15.04).

Sketchup 2015 itself is working OK.

However, I am having problems installing Ruby Extensions from the Sketchup Extensions Warehouse. As an example, one Extension that I'm trying to use is "Cutlist". It installs OK with no errors. But when it runs within Sketchup, most of the contents of the Cutlist Extension's dialog box are missing.

This link shows what the Extension's Dialog Box should look like; i.imgur.com/IGU7ZtB.png (screen shot from a Windows Computer).

This link shows what that same extension's dialog box looks like when running under Wine; i.imgur.com/CHIMqh5.png

Is this problem most likely part of some known problem with Ruby scripts running under Wine, or is there some other explanation or resolution?

Many thanks,

Roy

After having so many problems with Riby Extensions for Sketchup 2015 that would not work in a Wind environment, I have resorted to running a copy of Windoze 10 in VirtualBox, and running Sketchup 2015 in that virtual Windoze environment.

Maybe, one day in the future, when Wine development has progressed a bit more, I'll have another go at using Sketchup 201? under Wine.

As I earn my living from using Sketchup, I need the full functionality of Shetchup to be working.

Thanks,

Roy

How did you install SketchUp ? I'm having problems in this step.
RE: Issues With Some Ruby Extensions Not Working

From memory, I simply installed the new 64 bit version of Sketchup 2015 into Wine running on a 64 bit Ubuntu installation, and it just worked.

However, I never did manage to overcome the issues with Ruby Plugins failing to install correctly, along with a myriad of other bugs (features). I needed Sketchup to work reliably as part of my work, so I'm afraid that I have abandoned Wine in favour of Win10 installed in VirtualBox.

Maybe when the next major version of Wine comes out, I'll give it another try. In the meantime, I just need Sketchup to work reliably with all standard features available, which at the present stage is not the case with Sketchup on Wine.

The cutlist plugin relies on IE to be installed, I managed to get it working after installing IE7 x64
64 bit Ubuntu: Copied mfc100u to system32, but no go
by Carl A. Myrland on Tuesday May 5th 2015, 14:32
I've copied the mfc100u.dll to system32, but the program hangs after selecting units with output in terminal:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x50bc8 "?" wait timed out in thread 0029, blocked by 0000, retrying (60 sec)

any ideas?

Oh sorry about that, I sent accidently mfc100
Here should be right link for mfc100u
www.mediafire.com/download/tql4xskm468xf9g/mfc100u.dll
If that doesn't work either, try install 32-bit version of sketchup 2015.

This DLL is part of the C++ package from Microsoft. Grab the entire thing from download.microsoft.com. As Sketchup is a x86 program you want the "vcredist_x86.exe". Specifically the "Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013".

This has gotten me a running Sketchup Make window, and I've gotten as far as the template selection. It's not happy after that so will try a few things and see how I go.

I've tried a few of the winetricks options for IE 7 but suspect a more recent version of IE is going to be necessary to jump this hurdle.

32-bit vs 64-bit
by Rainer Dorsch on Saturday February 21st 2015, 12:13
For me the 32bit version worked both on amd64 and i386.

I tried first the 64 bit version, but failed. Not sure if it was because I did something wrong (in the past I used only 32 bit versions inside wine) or if it was a wine issue.
Was the 64 Bit or 32 Bit Version Used ?
by Roy Gilby on Saturday February 7th 2015, 1:21
In this testing, it is not clear whether the 64 Bit or 32 Bit version of Sketchup Make 2015 was used.

Can anyone advise what version was used ?

Thanks,

Roy

Using the 64-bit version, I was able to get this working following the instructions provided (copy the dll and use Windows 7 as the windows version in winecfg).

Crash when clicking on "Preferences"
by Julian Hapke on Tuesday December 2nd 2014, 15:45
As the title says. can anyone tell me how to set the small icons via regedit, so i can avoid the preferences menu?
also everytime i start sketchup, a new browser tab with tips appears. I could not yet find the switch to disable this.
RE: Crash when clicking on
by Paul on Sunday April 12th 2015, 5:00
Have you tried the latest release of Wine? The Preferences dialog works fine for me with 1.7.39.
About the browser tab, I think this is linked to the license prompt dialog. The URL I see is
help.sketchup.com/en/in-product/2015/make/ww/licensed and the dialog has an empty space for an embedded browser pane.
