odb32.dll error fixed ( For iTunes 7.7)
by Bill on Saturday July 26th 2008, 4:21
Thanks to the AppDB team for the advice, downloading winetricks and installing MDAC25 fixed iTunes for me. For others with this problem:

get winetricks using: wget www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

move winetricks to /usr/local/bin and set as executable

run winetricks by typing 'winetricks' at the console, choose MDAC25 and install

NOTE: during this process I found out to NEVER run wine or winetricks as root/sudo. This breaks .wine ownership.

Sorry if some of this is basic stuff but I'm new to linux in general, figured others might find it useful.

Itunes is black

Hello,

Can someone help me with iTunes 12?
My screen is black. i can't see nothing.

I'm in Ubuntu 16.04, with wine 4.15.

I was facing the same issue

You can't neither use the latest version nor the 64bits.
Follow this tutorial docs.google.com/document/d/1SVgGX9x1hWZzyhEJs5_7UH1K5i7Cuz6B2iuIwm40VrQ/edit

it worked for me

Try installing iTunes 12.8.x instead. It doesn't show a black screen, and it doesn't have the sign-in prompt crash. You can find official links to old iTunes versions here:

iTunes crashes when logging in

iTunes crashes during login because NtQueryVirtualMemory is not or only partially implemented in Wine.

Can confirm.
Just download a 12.8.x version and use that, it doesn't have such issue.

Ubuntu 18.04 - 32bit

On Ubuntu 18.04, 32-bit version runs perfectly.
RE: Ubuntu 18.04 - 32bit
by Mark Richter on Tuesday September 11th 2018, 19:18
When I tried to install the 32-bit version, it said I was running a 64-bit machine (I have both architectures enabled).

The 64-bit install just failed.

How did you get this to work?

Create the prefix with WINEARCH=win32 variable
Works fine
by clidx on Tuesday July 3rd 2018, 7:05
On Arch with every package and iTunes 32 bit at the latest as of this comment and Wine 3.11.
Overrode gdiplus and msxml3 (not sure if these are still needed) and added reg keys for CSMT (this was definitely needed). It works decently and I wouldn't call it slow. Without CSMT it was slower and it crashed as per previous comment. Scrolling can be a little jerky sometimes.
itunes V12 on OpenSuSE Leap42.2...
by MlCHAEL on Friday March 23rd 2018, 2:04
...and wine 3.4:

Runs a little bit slow, but runs.

When installing iTunes, Windows Version must be set to Windows7, otherwise it will not install.

iTunes needs Windows 7 service pack 1 somehow to be installed before WINE runs it in 3.0.2. And Mint 19, could do with a fix
Forgot to mention
by toafk on Monday December 18th 2017, 6:26
I forgot to mention in my test report that iTunes (64-bit) freezes for ~2 minutes when you open preferences. Same thing occurs again if you select the "Devices" pane.

Added requirement for itunes to work correctly.
by trivial fis on Thursday August 17th 2017, 5:35
I installed wine 2.13 on fedora 26 and use itunes 12.6.2.
1. itune will crash when I switch between tabs like "For you" and "Browse" when browsing store. But enabling CSMT from staging can fix this. I looked at the crash detail, it seems like memory corruption.
2. Playing videos from store won't work, which will crash iTunes. To fix this issue, I installed vcrun2013 via winetricks for msvcr120.

BTW, The iTunes I installed is 32 bit version.
Locked disk or no write permissions
by Trollwut on Sunday April 16th 2017, 6:57
Hi folks!

Installed it onto an Ubuntu with Wine 2.6 (no staging), 32-bit, Win7, gdiplus and msxml3

The installation went as intended and so on. Now when I start iTunes it asks me for the EULA (only on first time) and then an error is displayed:

=> The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions of this folder.

Though when checking the permissions on this folder, I do have them. Is there a fix for this?
RE: Locked disk or no write permissions
by Alexandr Oleynikov on Sunday May 7th 2017, 7:01
You probably run wine with root permissions (sudo). Delete your prefix and try again.
itunes 12.5.4 (32 bits mode) with wine 1.9.24
by Gerald Rathjen on Thursday December 22nd 2016, 6:06
Hello,
I can not sign in to the iTunes Store with my Apple ID. I receive the error "Verification failed: There was an error connection to the Apple ID server". In the preferences dialog the Store options are grayed out. I have installed the iTunes 12.5.4 (32 bit) with wine 1.9.24 and 1.7.28.

Greeting.

itunes 12.5.3 and 32 bits mode
by Patrick Pochard on Wednesday December 7th 2016, 7:56
Bonjour,

I'm not sure I fully understand but it seems to me that iTunes 12.5.3 is a 64 bit application (as mentionned in apple web page), so the winearch win32 seems at least strange.
Can some one clarify this for me ?
Thank you
Patrick

by Wine Taster on Wednesday December 7th 2016, 15:31
There are both 32 bit and 64 bit setups. 32 bit is quite hidden at apple.com, but here is the direct link:
secure-appldnld.apple.com/itunes12/031-88390-20161031-259EC4AD-5719-4DCD-B8E6-99C0F59AE24B/iTunesSetup.exe
Gold!?
by Hugo Osvaldo Barrera on Tuesday December 6th 2016, 6:54
How is this "gold" rating acceptable?

Itunes is an app for syncing devices, and "not tested" lists "syncing devices". That's a completely test result.
RE: Gold!?
by Hugo Osvaldo Barrera on Tuesday December 6th 2016, 6:54
* That's a completely *useless* test result.
RE: Gold!?
by James Zhao on Tuesday December 6th 2016, 22:22
iTunes is just not a application for synchronisation of music and video files. Under the maintainer definitions, if one feature that doesn't work, it doesn't mean the entire program doesn't. As such, with this complaint, I have revised the rating on the test result in question.
iTunes can be used to:
View books
Download and listen/watch podcasts
Listen to music
Purchase a range of media and playing it.

If any of these features work, then it is deemed higher than Garbage. If the majority of these features function, then it can be considered Silver as syncing between devices is not a 'normal' day-to-day use case. Would you sync something everyday?
RE: Gold!?
by Hugo Osvaldo Barrera on Wednesday December 7th 2016, 0:03
In all honesty, all those are secondary functions. It's like a photo tagging app being able to open/display/save photos, but not tag them.

In any case, I guess bronze/silver at least sounds better than gold.
RE: Gold!?
by Ken Sharp on Saturday February 25th 2017, 13:33
You're quite correct and editing the rating was the correct thing to do also. This is why we need good maintainers.
Error 0x80090304
by Matthew D'Asaro on Monday November 14th 2016, 19:57
All -
I have been struggling with this error preventing me from logging into the iTunes store for years now, both with iTunes 10 and now iTunes 12 and I finally found a solution. The problem is exactly the same as "Issue #2" in this extensive thread:

us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20742995286

In short, secur32 is asking gnutls to use SSLv3 for secure connections and Apple (apparently) now wants to use TLS, thus preventing a secure connection from being established. More recent versions of gnutls have dropped support for SSL entierly and instead use TLS which masks the problem with secur32. However, if you are running an older distribution (Ubuntu 14.04 in my case) this will cause error 0x80090304 to be reported in iTunes when attempting to log into the music store and/or the console will show:

... (Initialize|Accept)SecurityContext failed with error 0x80090304

Read the above link for two possible solutions, but the easiest is probably just to upgrade your distribution.

Hope this helps!
Matthew
RE: Error 0x80090304
by Matthew D'Asaro on Monday November 14th 2016, 21:27
OK. Looks like I was only half right. I can confirm that upgrading the distribution fixed the 0x80090304 error, but the patch at the above link does not seem to.

In order to run iTunes in wine you need to download last version that has XP support, 12.1.3: support.apple.com/kb/DL1614
RE: 12.2 has dropped Windows XP and Vista
by yurii k on Tuesday December 1st 2015, 13:23
thanks man. works perfectly on staging 1.7.55!

it looks like wine64 bit doesnt want to run 64 bit though, it keeps to say unsupported architecture for dlls
RE: 12.2 has dropped Windows XP and Vista
by Brandon Taylor on Monday March 28th 2016, 12:05
Not necessarily. iTunes >= 12.2 will work with Wine; you just need to set the Windows version to Windows 7 or higher using Winetricks or Winecfg. Try 'winetricks win7' then 'wine iTunesSetup.exe' or, to run them both in one command line, 'winetricks win7 && wine iTunesSetup.exe'.
I did not manage to get 12.3 x64 to work with wine

I used wine 1.6.2, I was able to install. I first tried with default wine setup (it failed), switched to "windows 8" config, and it installed fine.but yet doesn't open.

Fails with error saying it needs to be reinstalled;

Try using the "iTunes 12.3.3 for old video cards" available at support.apple.com/kb/DL1816?locale=en_US

It worked for me (on wine 1.9.7) when I ran into your same error with the normal iTunes.
