Additional Comments
Bloody Trapland via Steam Tested on Lenovo Y510P step by step: 1.) Get wine-staging 1.7.44 2.) Create a CLEAN 32-bit wine prefix. I’ve created one called .winetest by launching winecfg: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest winecfg a.) In the Libraries tab, add two new overrides: i.) dwrite ii.)*mscoree (1) Make sure to include the asterisk on *mscoree b.) Edit the newly created dwrite override to disable loading c.) Edit the newly created mscoree override to Native (Windows) loading 3.) Run the following command: wine uninstaller --remove '{E45D8920-A758-4088-B6C6-31DBB276992E}' a.) Reason being is that if mono was auto-installed to your wine prefix, you can’t install the .NET packages you need. It doesn’t hurt to run even if you don’t have mono installed. 4.) Exit winecfg, then open winetricks: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest winetricks a.) Select the default prefix, click OK b.) Choose the first option (Install Windows DLL or component), click OK c.) Select the following packages for installation, then click OK: i.) dotnet20 ii.) dotnet40 iii.) xna40 5.) Package 1, via Winetricks - Installing .NET 2.0 a.) Winetricks will give prompts along the way. Here’s the order that I got them in. They’re fine to ignore: i.) Mono does not appear to be installed. ii.) Working around wine bug 34803 b.) The installation application should now open. Click next. c.) Accept the terms. Click next. d.) The installation has completed. Click Finish. 6.) Package 2, via Winetricks - Installing .NET 4.0 a.) Winetricks will give prompts along the way. Here’s the order that I got them in. They’re fine to ignore: i.) dotnet40 does not yet fully work or install on wine. Caveat emptor. ii.) Mono does not appear to be installed. b.) An extraction application will launch, then the .NET splash logo. Wait. c.) The installation application should now open. Accept the terms and click Install. d.) The installation has completed. Click Finish. 7.) Package 3, via Winetricks - Installing XNA 4.0 a.) Winetricks will give a prompt along the way. It’s fine to ignore: i.) xna40 does not install properly in wine yet b.) The installation application should now open. Click next. c.) Accept the terms. Click next. d.) Click Install. e.) The installation has completed. Click Finish. f.) You will be sent back to the winetricks window. Due to the strange way the app is structured, continue to click the Cancel button (or press escape) until Winetricks closes. 8.) [OPTIONAL] Verify the installation process using netfx_setupverifier.exe a.) Follow the directions to download the setup verification utlity from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx b.) Run the utility, via terminal, using the 32-bit wine prefix you have created (again, mine is .winetest, yours may be different. The location of your verification application may also be different, so change the following line accordingly): WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest wine ~/Desktop/netfx_setupverifier.exe c.) The utility will launch. Click Yes. d.) Agree to the terms. e.) In the dropdown menu, there should be 2.0, 4.0 Client and 4.0 Full. Select .Net Framework 4.0 Full, then click Verify Now. There should be no errors. i.) If you receive an 0x8004001 error, make sure that mscoree is set to Native in winecfg as was described earlier in these instructions. f.) Close the verification utility. 9.) Launch winecfg through your wine prefix. (My prefix is .winetest, yours may be different): WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest winecfg a.) In the Applications tab, set the Windows version to 8.1 b.) Exit winecfg 10.) WITHOUT USING WINETRICKS, download the Windows version of steam: a.) General link: https://store.steampowered.com/about/ b.) Direct link: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/SteamSetup.exe 11.) USING TERMINAL, Run the steam setup application. (My prefix is .winetest, yours may be different. The location of your setup application may also be different, so change the following line accordingly): WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.winetest wine ~/Desktop/SteamSetup.exe a.) The installation application should now open. Click next. b.) Accept the terms. Click Next. c.) Choose your language (default is English). Click Next. d.) Click Install. e.) The installation has completed. Click Finish. i.) If you do not see text displaying correctly in Steam through wine, you didn’t override the dwrite library correctly. Review your winecfg setup. f.) Login, entering credentials where needed. Agree to the terms. 12.) Install Bloody Trapland like usual. Attempt to play the game. a.) Another XNA installer will launch. Click Install. i.) Because it is already installed, it will immediately complete. b.) Click Finish. Bloody Traplands will then launch. 13.) Enter the provided CD Key. If the game crashes or locks up when you begin a stage, make sure that your windows version is 8.1. Check winecfg. Enjoy!! :)
