What works

The Canon DPP program itself (tested with version 4.18.10), editing CR3 files, exporting JPG files, connection with "EOS Registration Tool". No

What does not

It is not possible to install the application with the "default" installer on Wine - this step needs a workaround.

Use a Windows VM or existing Windows installation to install the program.

Then pack the installation folders and files from "Program Files\Canon" and "Program Files (x86)\Canon" into a zip file. Export the registry keys "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Canon_Inc_IC" and "HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Canon_Inc_IC".

Create a new wineprefix and install dotnet471 (do not install dotnet8 - example): WINEPREFIX=/home/username/CanonDppPfx WINEARCH=win64 winetricks dotnet471. Set Windows version to 8.1 then.

Copy the packed files from the Windows installation into the corresponding wineprefix folders (e.g. "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" and import the registry keys via regedit (don't forget to use the prefix!).

Didn't manage to start the installer of 4.14
by Stphane Magnenat on Sunday July 4th 2021, 5:10
I've been trying to install version 4.14 on Wine 5.0 on Ubuntu 20.04. I have dotnet45 and msxml3 installed through winetricks. Using either an old 32 bits or a brand new 64 bits wine installation, I always get the error "This software is not compatible with your operating system". If the system is set to Windows 10 I get this error message in a visually themed window, if it is an older version of Windows, I get the same message in a standard Win32 dialog.

Actually I had a broken wine64 installation, by fixing it (with WINEARCH=win64 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine64) I get the administrator privilege error as mentioned in another post.

Could you please describe all the steps to make DPP start?
I've passed a very long quest to make it run (export export LANG=en_US.UTF-8, increased open file handles limit, put native mscoree.dll and mscorees.dll in DPP's folder, applied some packages not available to winetricks and so on), but finally DPP raises a bunch of errors and starts for a about 3 minutes :(

DPP 4.4.30 Install on Ubuntu 16.04 and Wine 1.9.18
by tom on Wednesday September 14th 2016, 7:56
After selecting Windows version 8.1 in winecfg and installing msxml3, I successfully run dppw4.4.30-installer.exe and installed the software. This created a launcher icon on my desktop. Unfortunately the launcher icon doesn't go beyond the DPP splash screen. Nothing happens and no error message is displayed. After reading the comments posted here I attempted to install dotnet45 (or earlier versions), but the install displays the following warning messages and fails:

This package does not work on a 64-bit installation
dotnet45 does not yet fully work or install on wine. Caveat emptor.
Mono does not appear to be installed.
If install fails, set /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope to 0. See
Working around wine bug 34803

Any suggestion on how to launch DPP is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

After some research, I found out that the root cause of my troubles was merely the use of a 64-bit wine prefix. The switch to a newly-created 32-bit prefix solved my problem and enabled me to successfully complete the install.
