Ultra Street Fighter IV

Steam release of the game originally known as 'Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition' (SSF4AE), updated with new content, and renamed as 'Ultra Street Fighter IV' (USF4).  The new content has been made available for purchase in the form of DLC for owners of the original title.  Any who purchased USF4 after the name change should already have the DLC in their library.  DLC being optional for those original owners of SSF4AE, let this serve as the hub for those with or without the new content.

What works

* Installation
* Single player gameplay
* Multiplayer online gameplay
* XBox360 wireless controller when used as dinput (see below)
* Various online features: leaderboards, some replay channels

What does not

* Sound crackles and pops:  Very annoying when present.  Happens occasionally, and appears to either exist through the entire game session or not at all.  Originally I thought this fixed the issue.  As luck would have it, it resurfaced just now as I was writing up this test report.  Restarting the game didn't fix the problem.  Stopping music from Banshee didn't fix it.  Though after restarting Banshee, the problem did go away.  It may just be a coincidence, but something is surely awry with pulse and this game, and other applications may have a hand in the problem.
* Menus and various overlays flicker:  FIX: set RenderingThread=OFF in config file (~/CAPCOM/SUPERSTREETFIGHTERIV/config.ini)

* xinput hacks for gamepad via x360ce don't work: see below
* Steam overlay

What was not tested

* Local multiplayer
* Completing single player game
* Other online features?

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Rated Silver for audio problem only. The sound issue is the only real hangup and unfortunately not reliably reproducible. That aside, the game runs perfectly at max and is otherwise certainly Gold. ************** *INSTALLATION* ************** Clean install to new 32bit prefix using wine 1.7.34-0ubuntu1~ppa1 (wine team ppa). WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winemenubuilder.exe=d WINEARCH=win32 WINEDEBUG=fixme-all WINEPREFIX=~/wherever for videos: % winetricks -q quartz devenum wmp9 get steam installer from % wine SteamSetup.exe % wine $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam/Steam.exe -no-dwrite disable steam overlay install USF4 via steam After my install, the cloud sync sat at 0% for a long time (5+ mins). I found running the game for the first time before sync has finshed causes it to hang at DirectX install (step 2 of 2) until sync completes. As a side note, installing from steam backup works fine too. ********* *GAMEPAD* ********* XBox360 wireless gamepad for windows: Using xboxdrv, gamepad shows up as "Xbox Gamapad (userspace driver) (js)" under options >> button map menu. Params below pair with the default button map. Feel free to update in-game mapping or edit xboxdrv params below, however note that many actions are tied to a single button (ie LK/confirm, MK/back). xboxdrv --detach-kernel-driver --deadzone 10% --trigger-as-button --buttonmap 3=4,1=3,4=1 --silent Attempt to get controller properly working as an xinput gamepad only half-worked. Using x360ce, xinput1_3.dll w/ native override introduced four new controllers named "Controller n" under button map, complete with xbox button names/icons. The "Xbox Gamepad (userspace driver) (js)" was still listed, however. The game then seemed to think there were two controllers connected, and input from the one controller sent commands for both player1 and player2 at the same time. Actions for player1 used dinput mappings while actions for player2 used xinput mappings. I've seen similar behavior in other games (ie Need for Speed HP 2010) where presenting the controller as xinput simply adds another controller with opportunity to create strange mapping conflicts. Lack of xinput for this game basically means having to remember button numbers (b=2, rb=6 etc), as all prompts will show as 'Button n' instead of the xbox button icon. ******** *CONFIG* ******** There are a number of options that can only be changed by editing the config file (~/CAPCOM/SUPERSTREETFIGHTERIV/config.ini), namely running fullscreen. The file doesn't appear to be created until the game is run. So if you want fullscreen, start the game first, then exit, edit file. ************* *SYSTEM INFO* ************* ubuntu 14.04.01 LTS 3.16.0-29-generic x86_64 (linux-generic-lts-utopic) nvidia 346.35 (xorg-edgers ppa) xfce 4.12 (xubuntu ppa) mobo: gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 rev2 cpu: intel i7 960 (3.20GHz @ ~3.43GHz OC) mem: 6GB Corsair DominatorGT CMT6GX3M3A2000C8 @ 2000MHz gfx: evga gtx 970 ftw 4GB snd: asus xonar essence stx disp: dell U2711 gamepad1: xbox360 wireless for windows gamepad2: xbox360 wired for windows gamepad3: logitech f310 (xinput/dinput)
