HowTo / Notes

Requires QuickTime 7 ( included), Adobe Flash Player ( ActiveX version included), Adobe Reader X (10.1.3 included), and .NET Framework 4 (not included, use winetricks dotnet40).

If a newer version of Adobe Reader X is already installed then the included version will be skipped.  If bugs #12501 (mspatcha) and #25834 (protected mode) still affect Reader X, then their workarounds will be needed before installation of the included components or operation of HyperStudio.

Installation Guide

While it's not working yet, some problems have been resolved.

First, it needs a 32-bit environment (set WINEARCH=win32 on 64-bit systems).  Then install the component dependencies:

winetricks -q mspatcha corefonts dotnet40 windowscodecs

Note: mspatcha is for Adobe Reader which also needs protected mode disabled with:

wine reg add "HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Adobe\\Acrobat Reader\\10.0\\FeatureLockDown" /v bProtectedMode /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

The Hyperstudio 5 installer as a tendency to hang (at least the demo does) so it may take several attempts.  To improve your chances of success, install the third-party apps first - Adobe Reader 10, QuickTime 7.7, and Adobe Flash - so it will skip the outdated versions it is bundled with.

During installation, there can be several different errors (like thread time-outs), all of which require aborting it and trying again.
