Workarounds

Run the game in windowed mode.

1. On winecfg, create a virtual desktop for the game executable.
2. Check Emulate a virtual desktop under Graphics tab.

Note: If your screen is too small, the bottom part of the window will be cut off. Adjust the in-game resolution accordingly. I had to set mine to 800x600 on my non-HD laptop (1366x768).

Additional Comments

Might be hardware-related, but when I close the game my screen color looks washed out. This can be easily fixed by opening the terminal and running xgamma -gamma 1.0
