What works

All basic usages possible as far as I utilized it.

What does not

Online features, I was not able to log in to my adobe account. This and workaround allowed me to rank it as Silver.

Workarounds

Make sure you install it using Wine 32bit Prefix.  I went for the default approach:

rm -rf /home/jack/.wine
WINEARCH=win32 wineboot

Also, I had to replace winetricks with the latest one. Instructions are available here.

Then I did

winetricks mspatcha

in terminal.

This should make the Adobe Reader installable and runnable. However, the UI will have problems with font, many items will not be visible. To fix it, ensure that your Windows version in winecfg is set to Windows XP. I have tested it with Windows 7, 8, 10 settings in winecfg, but none allowed me to view the texts properly.

What was not tested

PDF editing/FIll Forms/Online Features

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Submitting this installation guide for someone new to wine:

  7. Optional: Change Wine version to latest in System (PlayOnLinux Application Configuration)
XFA PDF forms

This is the only software that allows users to properly fill out XFA PDF forms. These forms are used by a lot of government agencies and other organizations. You cannot use the mobile versions of Adobe Reader to fill these forms either. You need a windows or Mac version to do this.

On Linux installing the windows Version of Adobe reader on wine allows you to get this ability.
