What works

It installs, though the installer will erase all the files before installation is completed. The work around is that before exiting the installation, copy the files at /Program Files/Adobe/Reader to a temporary directory then restore it after the installation program exits. Acrobat Reader DC will open non-Javascript PDF files. Copies of files can be saved.

What does not

Attempt to open a Javascript PDF file causes the program to crash. Attempt to use many menu links will cause AcroReader to freeze or crash. Except for "About" none of the help/information menu links seem to work.

Additional Comments

If install fails, download and run AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015.exe or install a different version of Acrobat DC (eg, 11.0.0 instead of 11.0.10). A different version may be the only recovery if an Error code 150202 appears.

HowTo / Notes

Simple installation instructions

Submitting this installation guide for someone new to wine:

  1. Install Wine
  2. Install PlayonLinux
  3. Download older Adobe Reader installer version 19.010.x from Adobe's website
  4. Run the Play on Linux installer to install the software.
  5. Install "Microsoft core fonts" from POL tab "Install Components"
  6. Change the wine version to 4.0.1 or keep it at what PlayOnLinux recommends (which is 3.0.4)
  7. At first launch disable the protected mode while opening files
  8. Also disable online storage while saving files from the preferences menu
XFA PDF forms

This is the only software that allows users to properly fill out XFA PDF forms. These forms are used by a lot of government agencies and other organizations. You cannot use the mobile versions of Adobe Reader to fill these forms either. You need a windows or Mac version to do this.

On Linux installing the windows Version of Adobe reader on wine allows you to get this ability.
